Drugs Causing Brain Damage?...WEIRD

The article "Party Drug Ecstasy May Cause More Widespread Brain Damage Than Previously Though" is about a test that John Hopkins University did on Monkeys.  We thought that ecstasy only affected the serotonin brain cells in our brain when really it killed many dopamine cells.  Serotonin brain cells regulate our mood and behavior and Dopamine cells are involved in controlling movement, emotional and cognitive responses, and also the ability to feel pleasure.  60 to 80 percent of dopaminergic nerve endings in the brain known as striatum were destroyed.    When this part of our brain is damaged it leads to almost a 70 percent loss of dopamine.  So in just a few doses your brain could really deteriate fast.  How that this study is out hopefully people will think a little more before they take all drugs and maybe do a little bit a reading before they get addicted or take too much.

Looking at these chickens you would think they are on steroids.  Almost four times the normal size.  Try imagining a six year old child weighing 286 pounds...Disturbing isn't it?  More and more people have been genetically raising animals.  Meat in our grocery stores come from animals suffering.  The growth rate of these animals is extremely unhealthy.  It is priced in the stores very low and also is very inexpensive to produce.  It takes hundreds of years to create these animals because of all the generations that put out genetic traits.  To make a cow that is genetically produced requires many qualities.  First being size.  Most of the cows in this farms have twice the muscle of any other cow.  They take in the same amount of food and water as any other cow.  This makes it simple to care.  They also put in personality traits.  They need to be calm, aware, and also smart.  Chickens are also a common animal in food product testing.

GREGOR MENDEL

Gregor Mendel was born in 1822 and died in 1884.  He was the first scientist to study the idea of hereditary.  He created the laws of inheritance these being...hereditary factors do not combine, each parent only transfers half of their hereditary factors, and different offspring receive different hereditary factors.

A WORLD WITHOUT MOSQUITOES!

What do you think the world would be like without mosquitoes?  In our class we read and article about how the world would be affected without the nasty little bug flying around our bodies.  I personally could live with out them but could other animals in our world?  The Artic caribou run from the mosquitoes but still take the same route to get away.  Coyotes that prey on the animals know the exact route of the animals.  The land that they tromp on has also gotten used to the way they move.  Other animals that eat mosquitoes could find other bugs to eat just as easy as moving to a new area with mosquitoes.  I know that it might take years to get rid of Mosquitoes but i think that it is worth the wait!  People should not have to fear the diseases they carry anymore!...Plus bug spray STINKS!

Animal testing should be reduced everywhere, whether its involving cosmetics or medicines it can hurt the animal being tested.  Is it okay for us to torture animals when they truely arent getting anything out of it.  Injecting disease in a perfectly healthy animal is very wrong.  What if you couldnt cure it in the end? That animal is left with a disease they could do nothing about.

Too Much Water!

Last week we read an article on how drinking too much water could be fatal.  I had heard that drinking too much water can make you sick but i did not kow that it could actualy kill you!  As an athlete you should be drinking just as much as you sweat.   This is extremely hard to measure but if you do, it will help alot.
